IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Not until you have failed can you learn true humility. Humility arises from a deep sense of gratitude to God for giving you the strength to rise above past failures. Humility is not inconsistent with self-respect. The true person has self-respect and the respect of others and yet is humble. The humble person is tolerant of other's failings, and does not have a critical attitude toward the foibles of others. Humble people are hard on themselves and easy on others.-from Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Today I am grateful...
  • for two reminders of why I do a gratitude list each day: yesterday's tenth step meeting and a late night chat with sister So
  • to know that when you keep a clean house a small mess becomes more visible, so it goes with the tenth step
  • that it looks likely that Wilma will stay away from the Texas coast
  • that the more I keep to myself, the sicker I feel (and act)
  • that I do not have to wear those weird pizza slice shoes some women wear
  • that a year ago today Bob S had his open heart surgery and has sailed on since then
  • that when I detach from the craziness of this world the more peace I find

Welcoming the wind, the sunshine, the days, the nights, every moment, every person, every object, every task with all the joy in your own heart and also knowing...that joy is what you will receive from them- in this way, you create a palace of joy to live in. --Gurumayi Chidvilasananda
