IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Although drinking behavior may have been defiant and antisocial, most of us wanted others to think well of us. If we are not watchful, this need for approval can tyrannize us in sobriety. ~Walk in Dry Places
.
Today I am grateful...
  • for coffee, sharing and laughter with AP yesterday afternoon in her back yard
  • for this odd event. Sunday night R&J&I were watching Jeopardy. The final question category was Advertising Icons and this picture of Speedy Alka-Seltzer popped in my vision--I could almost literally see it in front of me. I said out loud, "Speedy Alka-Seltzer" The answer, which really is a question, stunned me...What is Speedy Alka-Seltzer?
  • for my loved ones, here and there
  • that if I swim with the flow my arms get less tired
  • that by letting my mind rest on a firm middle ground the less crazy I get
We are what we think
All that we are arises with our thoughts
With our thoughts we make the world.
Speak or act with an impure mind
And trouble will follow you
As the wheel follows the ox that draws the cart.

We are what we think
All that we are arises with our thoughts
With our thoughts we make the world.
Speak or act with a pure mind
And happiness will follow you
As your shadow, unshakable. ~Dhammapada, Buddha

No wonder my arms are so tired all the time.
OK, you need to go on Jepardy and win a bunch of money.

Stay on the middle ground, Scott, just in case the world is flat...we don't want you falling off the edge.

I think you better get yourself on Jeopardy! Then I can say "I know him!"

I lived on Bromo Seltzer when I was drinking. I don't even think they make that anymore, do they?

I love the buddha thoughts - amazing.

my good friend says (about Jeopardy moments like that), that it's the universe telling you you're exactly where you're supposed to be at that moment

I miss those old commercials and icons that were so familiar. Instead, we get the cheesy Lexus commercials and other greedy stuff.

The Jeopardy question was a sign. Now if you could just figure out what the sign means...

Ah, yes, that old bugaboo ...
"looking for approval from others"
I am happy to say that being in AA and living the recovery life has made me strong enough that it hardly matters anymore, as long as I know that what I'm doing is right, and I trust my gut for that.
