IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Who am I? To answer this, we must first learn to become more aware of ourselves. To be aware, we must STOP and PAY ATTENTION! We need to STOP and objectively watch ourselves in action. We live most of our lives by habit. These habits keep us stuck in patterns that limit our experience of life. Once we detect a pattern we were previously unconscious of, we can choose differently, if we want. With awareness comes choice and with choice, we gain freedom. ~higherawareness.com

This day I am grateful...
  • that the weather people still see Gustav as hitting the Louisiana coast
  • that most of last night's birthday celebrants were short winded...most
  • for the love of a certain Boston Bulldog
  • that my fiend Boston found a place to love
  • that I once got high points in Scattegories with Boston Baked Beans
  • for my new digitally restored Nightmare Before Christmas DVD which I will watch this weekend because I have the holiday off!
  • that my Higher Power will make sure I have all I need for today
Relapse is part of recovery: NOT! What the fellowships say is keep coming back SOBER. Members warn of the very real danger of that last relapse: stepping in front of a car or bus, overdosing, being institutionalized, and death! The truth is, any relapse can be your last. Never kid yourself, relapse is part of the disease process, not part of our recovery process. ~Pocket Sponsor

I'm so glad you have the holiday weekend off! It seems like you have been doing a lot more running than normal lately!

My daughter has 2 Boston Terriers. I think they are different from Boston Bulldogs, but equally cute. Both have those huge "love me" eyes. I miss the two since she moved out of state.

Last quote is thought provoking.

Lots of Boston here. Probably safer right now than Houston.

Love the quote about relapse.

Happy Labor Day Weekend.

My observation is that most people who relapse think it will only be a short time until they get sober again. They just want one more time to have fun. Well, if it was so much fun, why did they get sober in the first place?

I'm grateful to hear that it looks like you will be spared Gustav's wrath...

On relapse: I've sure seen a lot of that in my days in AA. However I think, whatever I do or do not, whatever I believe or believe not, whatever my status, however many sober years, meetings, or not, sponsor, or not...Alcohol is CUNNING, BAFFLING, AND POWERFUL! It tolerant (of my attempts at recovery and my disease is PATIENT--waiting for me in some beautiful bottle.

And my disease is very intelligent just waiting until I've turned from God, and a vulnerable ME says, "OK, I'm ready to try you again..."

I had an uncle who worked in a Rath meat packing plant.

I was in a meeting recently where a woman kept saying that AA said it was okay to "slip." I'm glad I haven't been to the same meetings she attends.
That first quotation says it perfectly. Thanks.

i love that movie, nightmare before christmas. it's wicked.

the 2nd quote mentions getting hit by a bus, this happened to a member i was friends with. he was in and out for years and he just stepped off of a curb and got hit.

his sister is also in the program and she's been sober since dirt.
