The essential character trait is willingness. This encompasses everything essential for spiritual growth. The wording is challenging, the thought process even more so. Check it out: ‘entirely ready.’ Whooee. That is the challenge. There is some leeway, but not much. But have faith, reader, faith in process – just stay with this process and have faith that it will work for you.
The character trait demanded of Step Six is willingness, open mindedness, that quality of self honesty that our pride does not want us to look at. ~thefiresidepost.com

Today I am grateful...
- that Sobriety Society had its run. There just wasn't enough interest to keep it alive.
- that I will try to accept things as they are today
- that I do not have to be anyone else today except the person I am--without disguise
- for, through right attitude, the peace inherent in this day
You say, "Yes, I'm willing. But am I to be consigned to a life where I shall be stupid, boring and glum, like some righteous people I see? I know I must get along without liquor, but how can I? Have you a sufficient substitute?" Yes, there is a substitute and it is vastly more than that. It is a fellowship in Alcoholics Anonymous. ~page 152

I loved the Daily Reflections for last Tuesday: "The essence of all growth is a willingness to make a change for the better and then an unremitting willingness to shoulder whatever responsibility this entails." It goes on to liken sobriety to weeding a garden in order to allow it to grow. Thanks for your focuses on certain topics!
The person I am Today - Without disguise. I LIKE that. Thanks.
Willingness was the key for me. When I came into Al-Anon I was so willing.
I'm in one of those brierpatches where I need to keep repeating "Open, willing, honest. Open, willing, honest."
I think that big book passage just might be my favorite. Yes, there is a substitute... and it is grand. Thanks for being a part of the fellowship I rely on for my very life.
Thanks for your inflections! Makes you think for sure!
I am grateful that you're inflected instead of infected.
being our true selves is almost like losing 50 pounds in a week without the danger to your health :)
and it's just so much easier...
