Trying to maintain control in this life is a bit like trying to maintain control on a roller coaster. The ride has its own logic and is going to go its own way, regardless of how tightly you grip the bar. There is a thrill and a power in simply surrendering to the ride and fully feeling the ups and downs of it, letting the curves take you rather than fighting them. When you fight the ride, resisting what’s happening at every turn, your whole being becomes tense and anxiety is your close companion. When you go with the ride, accepting what you cannot control, freedom and joy will inevitably arise.
Today I am grateful...
- that I do not believe "The world originated in a cipher and aimlessly rushes nowhere."
- that I do believe in a Higher Power that engulfs me in a mysterious flow that carries me down the middle of life's stream
- that if I stay away from the debris that collects on the sides of the stream I won't get caught up in any of it
- that I am stronger than any of my circumstances as long as I have my Higher Power with me
We can give in to our fear and anxiety, or we can surrender to this great mystery with courage. When we see people on a roller coaster, we see that there are those with their faces tight with fear and then there are those that smile broadly, with their hands in the air, carried through the ride on a wave of freedom and joy. This powerful image reminds us that often the only control we have is choosing how we are going to respond to the ride. ~quotes from today's DailyOm
The truth is more important than the facts. --Frank Lloyd Wright.

I'll join you in the middle of the stream, I'll bring the inner tubes and sun screen.
When I was a raging alcoholic I clung to 'facts' like "Medical Experts Prove Alcohol Reduces Risk of Heart Attacks!"
The 'truth' is I gotta die of something one day, and alcohol was getting me there more quickly than a heart attack.
I've been on that roller coaster for most of my life and almost always enjoy the ride. I'm pretty good at loosening my grip. That must be why people are always telling me to get a grip.

After learning to move with the flow of life's larger events, we are in position to fine tune and connect with an even deeper stream of awareness... honed intuition and perception of subtle energies are like an angel's kiss. Blessings to you, Scott -- on your way.
I dig the roller coaster analogy and sooo get it YAY
hope you are having a good day Scott
Awesome analogy, thank you. I appreciate your blog a great deal. I have been in recovery for a short a little while now, and have learned a great deal. I have a recovery blog as well, but I still find it hard to write some of things I need or want to. I hope you don't mind but I linked to your blog on mine. Anyway, thanks again and please email me if you are interested in checking out my blog.
all of these are very poetic scott, very peaceful.
