We learn to give ourselves what we need in a gentle, loving, compassionate way. We do this with the understanding it will not make us lazy, spoiled, self-centered, or narcissistic. Nurtured people are effective in their work and in their relationships. We will learn to feel loved by ourselves so much that we can truly love others and let them love us. ~The Language of Letting Go
Today I am grateful...
- for the conversation yesterday with a friend about grief not having to be sad
- to take some time to observe just how much my thinking has changed in 1490 days
- that it has been 900 days since I had a cigarette
- for a quiet and peaceful weekend
- that I have been steadfast in the maintenance of my recovery program
- that I NEVER have to do it by myself again
- that I can be sophisticated by being positive
Life is not a search for happiness. Happiness is a by-product of living the right kind of a life, of doing the right thing. Do not search for happiness, search for right living and happiness will be your reward. Life is sometimes a march of duty during dull, dark days. But happiness will come again, as God's smile of recognition of your faithfulness. True happiness is always the by-product of a life well lived. ~Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Good morning Scott.
I love that last quote. I have been blessed enough to experience glimpses of that kind of happiness.
I'm finally understanding that if I don't love and nurture myself, I can't possibly do the same for anyone else.
I'm going to bake cookies for my noon meeting, but after I get home why don't you come over and we'll play with Matchbox cars?
daang good stuff on the loving yourself.. I am right there... telling myself its ok to take care of me, and I am not selfish for doing so LOL oooh my perverse ego... gotta love it, then kick it aside...
I do hope you are having a marvelous Monday I am
It's amazing what we have to go through to reach this simple truth: "Happiness is a by-product of living the right kind of a life, of doing the right thing. Do not search for happiness, search for right living and happiness will be your reward."
"...and I cannot say what has happened to me, except, I am not the same."
I said this after my spiritual re-awakening... or was it peri-menopause? ;-)
I believe abuse of self often takes hold of us as a result of an unconscious or unresolved passion to create, or when we are unable to appreciate that which we are already creating. If abuse becomes addiction, then we have a new entity to contend with.
Pure, unadulterated creative expression comes from our very own unique connection to source... to God.
Until we've found our sweet spot with the divine, something will always be missing.
There are as many paths as there are people.
Thank you for your presence here.
