Success consists of getting up one more time than you fall. ~Anonymous
Today I am grateful...
- that someone I have never met did some service work to send me this
- that I have developed the ability to sit serenely and wait. I had pre-op yesterday, and I was moving from station to station (one of my favorite Bowie songs)--met with the nice and very attractive young anesthesiologist, had blood drawn, got a chest x-ray and had an EKG--while all the time relying on Conversations with God to keep me centered and in a loving space. I joked and laughed with all the techs, sat and observed the comings and goings of soul carriers as they took care of their business. I watched a little Hispanic boy share his little toy car with a little black boy, they signaled each other with their eyes. Then some more little boys came in and sat with the original two, chatting and acting like they had known each other for years. Another little one, with her mom and dad, being led to x-ray by a tech, the look on her face so full of fear but determined to be patient about it. Then mom getting up and asking if she could be there where the little one could see her, because mom was pregnant and can't be exposed to x-rays. I got to see that if you concentrate on being nice, smiling at everyone you come into contact with, their world and mine are a little richer. I was there from 7:45 AM until 11:45 AM. I prayed and meditated, and read some words my Higher Power has made available to me, and really was grateful for it all.
The single most important way for me to improve my conscious contact with a Higher Power is to pray and meditate. I am as powerless over alcohol as I am to turn back the waves of the sea; no human force had the power to overcome my alcoholism. Now I am able to breathe the air of joy, happiness and wisdom. I have the power to love and react to events around me with the eyes of a faith in things that are not readily apparent. My daily reprieve means that, no matter how difficult or painful things appear today, I can draw on the power of the program to stay liberated from my cunning, baffling and powerful illness. ~Daily Reflections

Getting from A to B is a much more pleasant trip than it used to be.

Love your post today, the story about the children just shows me that I must go back to that way of seeing the world.
God is Great.
Love you
Thank you for showing me how to walk through.
And Happy Birthday. Is today the day?
Sojo, no it's the 18th, Sunday.
"while all the time relying on Conversations with God to keep me centered and in a loving space."
When you post you express your spirituality in such beauty. I have read your blog many, many times and today reading the above about the centeredness and actions you do to practice this I get. Well, I am still learning to exercise this, and am very new. Sitting still and opening up the channels so God can enter is being practiced to the best of my ability. It is difficult, but all I can do is keep working this spiritual muscle.
When you write about your practiced experiences it just goes to show me that it can be done.
I miss you too baby.

What a fabulous post. Recovery in action. Where the rubber hits the road.
Your post proves that attitude is everything. By accepting the grace that God wants to bestow on each one of us, you were able to find the beauty in an experience that most would find frustrating and tedious.
That's why you're my hero, Captain Recovery.
It's so great when we get a chance to practice the stuff of our beautiful program.
your posts are such magic. i love you.
thanks for sharing that story, it was awesome.
Thank you Scott for your loving and enlightening words. May all who struggle with addictions...gain strength from the wisdom and love from a God that lives within...Love and blessings, Jim
