IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Sin has many tools, but a lie is the handle that fits them all. ~Oliver Wendell Homes

Today I am grateful...

  • for the new topic on Sobriety Society
  • for chocolate covered cherries
  • for Henry on Ugly Betty. You really should check the link.
  • that maybe the following is telling me the reason for my recent blahs: This yearning to expand your soul can come in the form of depression or boredom, a feeling of unease or dissatisfaction with your life, a feeling that something is missing. Many come to know these first signs as warning or wake up calls that the soul wants more; it wants to live as a fully realized being of light. ~Daily Om
  • that I am slowly learning how to keep my mind free of prattle
  • that sleeping in this cool weather is pure luxury
  • that this morning feels different

Lying, above anything else, brings us close to getting crazy again. Lying is what addicts do. In our addiction, our whole life was a lie. Lying creates danger because it creates secrets. Secrets keep us from others. To stay sober, we need to stay close to people. We can't make it on our own. Lying creates danger because it creates shame. A lie, like a drink, may make us feel good for the moment. But in the long run, it creates shame. Lies are like drinks---one leads to another. ~Keep It Simple

The quotation on soul expansion is timely; a dear friend has been feeling unsettled lately, and I'm going to send it to her. It's an overcast day here in Virginia, with the promise of rain. A good day to make a buttermilk pound cake. An ovenful of serenity.

Prattle??

I haven't heard that word since listening to an old radio skit of Edgar Bergen from the 1940's.

I'll have to use that word soon!
