Today I am grateful...
- that my Higher Power illuminated the path ahead
- that my bankruptcy hearing yesterday lasted all of three minutes
- for the support of my spiritual brother
- that dAAve now has access to hidden emoticons
- that though I am so adept at taking emotions/feelings and stuffing them, I am getting better at recognizing them before they get stored away where I can't find them
- that my Thanksgiving plans are set, but not in stone
- for my memories of the days surrounding the Kennedy assassination. The school buses were sent for early, we were taken home and Dad and I watched every minute of the television coverage in the darkness of our basement family room. I remember how profoundly sad my parents were and how not many words were spoken that weekend.
Cultivate gratitude: gratitude that so much good can be mine for so small a price; gratitude that I can trade away just one drink for all the happiness sobriety gives me; gratitude that A.A. exists and that I found out about it in time; gratitude that I am only the victim of a disease called alcoholism, that I am not a degenerate, a moral weakling, the self-elected victim of a vice or a person of doubtful sanity; gratitude that because others have done it, I can in time bring it to pass that I won't want or miss the one drink I am doing without. -AA Grapevine, Jan. 1948.
