IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

What I needed was the humility of self-forgetfulness and the kinship with another human being of my own kind. ~Bill W
.
Today I am grateful...
  • that through the Internet I have met some fascinating people, some of them I have never even seen in person!
  • for the $50 gift card to a fancy, schmancy restaurant I got when I won the drawing for a membership upgrade to the de Menil Museum
  • that today is another sober Friday with no margaritas on the horizon
  • for every day that passes, adding to my sober history
  • that I do not have to agree with everyone, in fact I can't

Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside of us while we live. ~Norman Cousins

Good stuff! I especially like the one about not being able to agree with everyone. I just have to remember that I am capable of disagreeing gently. I am also not required to have an opinion on every topic.

Thanks for calling me last night. It helped. You are a very thoughtful man.

I wonder if Norman ever had a drag bar named after him.

i like the quote about the tragedy being what dies inside of us while we live. i'm excited about today not having any margaritas on the horizon, too. just work and some fellowship.

I read that Dash Snow a child of the de Menil family died a couple of weeks ago from a heroin overdose, alone in the Lafayette Hotel. I think that your quote today is appropriate for Mr. Snow.

I think you should save the $50.00 until just the right person crosses your path and then you'll have to perfect date already set in place.

Great info! I like the reminder that I do not have to agree with anyone and I can do it with love. Thanks for a great start to my Friday! My vacation time with wonderful family members starts tomorrow! :)

I read that about Dash Snow too..what a tortured soul. That was the first I knew of the Houston de Menils.
Congrats on the gift card, you are on a lucky streak!

Dash seemed bent on destruction. His mother didn't give in, but his grandmother, Christophe (John and Dominique's daughter) threw money at him.

For those of you not from Houston, Dave is referring to a DIVE drag bar here called Cousins. It's the skankiest!

So many things I do not know about Houston and its people!
