IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

If we think of discipline in terms of punishment, we miss the more constructive meanings of the word. Discipline is order, training, practice, and study. Without it, our lives are ineffective and full of chaos. ~Food for Thought

Today I am grateful...
  • that I woke at 8:50 AM, had some iced coffee and made it to the Came to Believe meeting, chaired by our own Daave
  • for late night conversations with an AA brother and my dear sister, Trailboss
  • for my commitment to blogging daily
  • that I am going to the Marlene Dumas show at the de Menil Museum. Today is the last day for the show.
  • that AA had to be enough, and I am lucky it IS enough for me

Discipline is a tool, which produces self-respect and a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. When we discipline ourselves ... we achieve physical and emotional results, which make our spirits, sing! The discipline ... liberates us from the tyranny of self-will and self-indulgence. ~Food for Thought

Yea!

The Dumas show was superb. Powerful huge images. I also saw a show of Claes Oldenburg / Coosje van Bruggen drawings that blew me away. There was a Mickey Mouse facade for the MOMA that I wanted to steal.

Discipline is good. And necessary to live a successful life in recovery (me thinks).

Discipline is not one of my strongest traits. At work I was fine, but on my own not so fine and I can live with that. It's when others become judgemental with me that I have a problem.
Glad you enjoyed your outing to MOMA.

Is napping a discipline?

25+ years sober and still unclear with the whole discipline thing - I hope I can someday get this worked out...

Blessings...

Ed, it's the journey, not the destination.

Although I enjoy the rewards of discipline, I never like it at the start. Sometimes I'll try to discipline myself, but it far better when I do what it suggests in the 11th step and let G-d discipline in the simple way outlined there. :)

Would love to have been at some of these meetings.

I thought discipline was what the nuns did with rulers when we were naughty! Another old idea that had to be smashed...so simple, yet not easy. Sounds like it was a great day!

I have been so disciplined for so long that it's nice to be a bit of the other for a while.
