IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Katrina changed how a lot of people think about hurricanes. Rita, which was expected to hit Houston that same year and didn't, changed people's ideas about evacuating (lives were lost sitting on freeways leading out of town). So I waited anxiously to see what Edouardo would do. It was to hit Galveston directly, but instead hit east of there. We are expected to have some heavy rains and probably some high winds, but at least it did not develop to a hurricane. I am grateful for that.

A day that begins with gratitude is a day that you'll be able to fill with positive progress. When you're sincerely appreciative of where you are and what you have, you'll greatly expand your own possibilities. Begin with a thankful thought. And connect yourself with the abundance that is all around you. ~Ralph Marston
Today I am grateful...
  • that Leah W at Simon & Schuster sent me a copy of The Night of the Gun by David Carr. An autobiography of an addict. The first chapter is enthralling.
  • that if possible I will get to the noon meeting today, then if the weather cooperates, we have an appointment with a client in the afternoon
  • that it should be easy to keep this place cool today. The extreme heat lately doesn't allow the air conditioner to cool under 79ยบ until the sun goes down.
  • for a life based in recovery
  • that the craving and obsession for alcohol were removed from me

If I accept and act upon the advice of those who have made the program work for themselves, I have a chance to outgrow the limits of the past. Some problems will shrink to nothingness, while others may require patient, well-thought-out action. Listening deeply when others share can develop intuition in handling problems which arise unexpectedly. It is usually best for me to avoid impetuous action. Attending a meeting or calling a fellow A.A. member will usually reduce tension enough to bring relief to a desperate sufferer like me. Sharing problems at meetings with other alcoholics to whom I relate, or privately with my sponsor, can change aspects of the positions in which I find myself. Character defects are identified and I begin to see how they work against me. When I put my faith in the spiritual power of the program, when I trust others to teach me what I need to do to have a better life, I find that I can trust myself to do what is necessary. ~Daily Reflections

Hello how have you been?
I'm happy to say it's been 30 days since I had a drink! :-) I did have one odouls non alcoholic beer. But I'm not beating myself up over it even though there is a little bit of alcohol in it.

I've been to AA a few times but I wanted to say I'm very lucky to have found this blog! I quit drinking and lost my girlfriend all I could do was look at the bad in everything. Your blog helped me realize I have a lot to be thankful for! It was a really bad time finding this blog really helped me through a tough time. And you have some really good readers that left some really nice comments on my blog!

Thanks have a good day!

One of my habits is to always make a BIG DEAL out of NOTHING. When, oh when will I ever learn? I like to say, "In God's time"...but He is dragging His Holy FEET!

this has nothing to do with your post, but where in the tom sawyer were all these leah's while i was growing up? furthermore, since there seem to be so many, why can't we find personalized pencils with leah on them?

p.s. very glad that storm didn't cause my fav peeps in houston any problems.

p.p.s. i have a galveston story that involves THE biggest bugs i've EVER seen, and the sand dunes with zombies hiding in them.
