IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Alcohol gave me wings to fly, then took away my sky. - Anonymous
Today I am grateful...
  • to have been able to be present for yesterday's speaker meeting. Evidence of how drugs and alcohol can turn us into someone whom today no one would recognize.
  • for the HOW of the program--honesty, openmindedness and willingness
  • for the way my life just keeps purring along
  • that I spoke with my Higher Power today and was told things are just as they should be, today

Hope is such a marvelous thing. It bends, it twists, it sometimes hides, but rarely does it break. It sustains us when nothing else can. It gives us reason to continue and courage to move ahead, when we tell ourselves we'd rather give in.
Hope puts a smile on our face when the heart cannot manage.
Hope puts our feet on the path when our eyes cannot see it.
Hope moves us to act when our souls are confused of the direction.
Hope is a wonderful thing, something to be cherished and nurtured, and something that will refresh us in return. And it can be found in each of us, and it can bring light into the darkest of places.

Scott, this is one of my favorite poems. I hope it adds to your research of hope. Thanks for sharing what you've found, it's given me ... uh, hope!

Poem lyrics of Hope Is The Thing With Feathers by Emily Dickinson.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Hope gets me going in the morning and makes me look forward to what the day offers. Thanks for inspiring words.

Whenever I can't find hope at home, I always find it in an AA meeting.

...and thanks, ODtoA, for the poem!
