Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program, usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves. There are such unfortunates. They are not at fault; they seem to have been born that way. They are naturally incapable of grasping and developing a manner of living which demands rigorous honesty. Their chances are less than average. There are those, too, who suffer from grave emotional and mental disorders, but many of them do recover if they have the capacity to be honest. ~from chapter 5 of the Big Book
Today I am grateful...
- to be starting to study the principles behind the steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with my sponsor. The principle behind the first step is Honesty.
- that I have a generous and loving sponsor with many sponsees. That he will take time for each of us astonishes me a bit, honestly.
- that these days I share my truth more than ever, and that doesn't necessarily mean talking to you about it
- that my Higher Power gave me great gifts, two of those being the powers of choice and creation
- that in so many ways taking action keeps my life fairly well cleaned up
...when these things were done I would enter upon a new relationship with my Creator; that I would have the elements of a way of living which answered all my problems. Belief in the power of God, plus enough willingness, honesty and humility to establish and maintain the new order of things, were the essential requirements. ~page 14

Today I am seeing how good sponsorship is so valuable to the prevention of another drink (of course taking the direction is also key). I too am grateful for my sponsor and all her humbleness and honesty. Thank GOD for this program of attraction.
That is great to know you are doing so much spiritual work with your sponsor. What a blessing.
I dropped by to leave this comment.
