IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

This guy had been dragged out of his car drunk by the police. He was handcuffed and chained to a bench at the police station, he'd just urinated on himself, and he looked up at the cop and said, "I have got to stop driving." ~Scott R.
Today I am grateful...
  • that I do not believe that I do not deserve sobriety. As a child of God I deserve the happiest life available and it is there for my taking.
  • that I was able to grab sobriety and hold it close to me
  • that I have self respect today
  • that the apartment where I did my most damaging drinking has been demolished. It is now a parking lot for a restaurant and no one can spend the hours I did there, drinking to oblivion.
  • that this year I am not as anti-Christmas as I used to be
  • that yesterday I actually enjoyed listening to Sunny 99 play non-stop Christmas music

Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. ~Oren Arnold

I can't believe you are actually listening to the seasonal tunes. Is that progress or what?

Thanks for the great post. It's funny that my initial reaction to similarity is always amazement. I, too, did most of my heaviest drinking in a an apartment that has now been demolished. Occasionally, I end up driving past it and my gratitude is indescribable.

Hey Scott,

Keep up the good work. I'm so proud of you...and I don't even really know you.

Many Blessings

The true spirit of the season, stripped of rampant commercialism, is exactly what AA is all about: gratitude, spirituality, and giving unselfishly to others.

That guy was right...driving is the real problem. I'd wake up in the night and have to drive. Driving made me turn inward and alienate my friends. It ruined my health. I'm still driving because I have to, so I stopped drinking instead. That guy really nailed it, though.
