IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

11.28.07

I arrived yesterday at the clinic thirty minutes ahead of time, stood in a line with eighteen people ahead of me and it took forty minutes to reach the check in desk. During that time I was reading about someone who, while standing in line, did a mental gratitude list. That put a nice spin on the whole visit.
I try to be friendly in those situations, being in public spaces, waiting in line, dealing with strangers. Even when, during each visit, they ask "Allergic to any medicines?" "What medicines are you currently taking?" (Now I answer that one with, "The ones in my chart.") But yesterday, since I was there for the day before surgery consultation, when the intern asked "Is this your first visit to our clinic?" I replied with a flat "I am having surgery tomorrow."
Anyway, the doctor, whom I noticed has a piercing under her bottom lip, was warm and friendly. Well, she acted warmly, I didn't feel to see if she were or not. She gave the okay for the surgery, but said since they were slammed over the holiday weekend she did not know if she would have full staff. She would call me later.
She called last night at 9:35 PM and said we are going to do it in the morning. And I would also have the best otologist to accompany her. So I was able to sleep well after a day of low grade anxiety here and there. It was certainly a day to practice turning it over and letting it go.
I think I am prepared as well as I can be. I have prayed and offered the results to my Higher Power. Arranged for Dave to come let Bunny out this afternoon and feed him. Now, after many years of off and on problems with this ear we can get the problem taken care of.
I am grateful to have health coverage. I am grateful for the tons of offers to help during the recovery time and I will not hesitate to call out when I need something. I have a fellowship that loves me and with whom I can learn to be the greatest person I was designed to be. I have repaired relationships and live each day with gratitude. I have a life today I love. I am truly grateful for a God of my own understanding.
Thank you for my sobriety, my serenity and my recovery
Thank you for keeping me sober for the next 24 hours
Thank you for your grace that lets me experience this day
Thank you for giving me all I need for today
Thank you for sustaining my life
Thank you for sustaining my future
Thank you for sharing your secrets with me
Thank you for your healing love
Thank you for accepting my will and my life as I offer them to your care today
Thank you for redirecting my thoughts
Thank you for making yourself known to me

I wanted to let you all know that I just heard from J and Scott did well during the surgery and is now in recovery. It seems they were able to get all of the infection out and did not have to go as deep as anticipated. He is resting comfortably and it looks like he will be able to come home later on today.

Prayers answered!!

Yay! Thank you, Lisa, for the good news!

I kinda hope you do get one of those collars to wear, Scott. It would keep you from worrying with your ear, and they look sort of Elizabethan. If they give you a collar, wear tights and a velvet tunic with it. Pretend you're a troubadour.

Hiya, I don't know you but wish all the best for you. Came across your blog by accident, Google rate it highly apparently, so anyway, thank you for some very inspirational thoughts, I have only touched on a few, but they have encouraged my view of the wonderful people of the world. I'm from Australia and have just started blogging. It's fun.
So anyway, have a fantastic day and a speedy recovery!

It's easy to forget or to ignore the "little gestures of kindness" that other people extend to us every day.

I am touched by these little gestures and I try as much as as possible to show appreciation even with just a sincere "thank you".

It would even be better if we ourselves "pay forward" and extend sweet little gestures to others.

Hello,
You do not know me, for I am a visiting stranger on your blog. I just wanted to tell you that, surgery may sounds intimidating, however, you have all your loved ones and friends supporting and praying for you. Spiritually, with their strengths and faith in you, everything will be fine. With a positive perspective, you can overcome any obstacle. I will be praying for you. Good luck!

My first visit here. Just wandered over. Prayers for your surgery. Leaving it all in God's hands is difficult, but do-able.

God Bless.

Right before you're put under, you always think real hard, pray real hard & remember the moment, hoping that everthing goes well & you will get to wake up when it's all done. It is at that moment that you are utterly humbled & thankful! While I've had quite a few surgeries, there are only three that I remember all too well.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hi there scott!
Just wanted to say fantastic blog! I totally think that gratitude is an important part of life. Its basically like the cure all to any negative emotion, thats how powerful it is. I dont believe so much in God but i do believe in something called the universe. Some people might argue and say the same thing. Non the less i think that they both achieve the same goal! I also came across and really good book that talks about this concept extremely well called the "power of intention" by Wayne Dyer, have you come across it at all??

cheers

jen =)
