Today I am grateful...
  • for a wonderfully told story of an alcoholic yesterday, with a lot of AlAnon thrown in
  • that I am pretty convinced that I do better when not in a romantic relationship
  • that a pearl comes from an irritating grain of sand
  • that I can live with the disappointment of Humberto missing us completely, with no rain shed
  • that every day prayer helps me deal with my entitlement issues
Rather than regretting that I wasted half of my life drinking, I am just grateful that God has given me the rare opportunity to live two lives in one lifetime. ~Unknown

Boy, do I hear that. I was so grateful to be able to enjoy not being in a relationship, to just create a great relationship with myself. And then I was grateful to eventually *want* to want to be in a healthy relationship, even though I didn't know what that would look like and I didn't want to be in a relationship ever again. I wanted to want to! And now I am very grateful for my nearly nine-month old relationship with another recovering person and the clarity and sanity within it. And today I can be super-grateful for the relationship-focused 12-step programs that got me here (Codependents Anonymous and COSA).
