IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

07.30.07

Actually we were fooling ourselves, for deep down in every man, woman, and child, is the fundamental idea of God. It may be obscured by calamity, by pomp, by worship of other things, but in some form or other it is there. For faith in a Power greater than ourselves, and miraculous demonstrations of that power in human lives, are facts as old as man himself. ~from We Agnostics, Alcoholics Anonymous
Today I am grateful...
  • that I have been shown how to share what I have been so freely given, by God and by AA
  • that I have so many joys in my life
  • for another Monday replete with all its blessings
  • for a Higher Power that sustains my life and sustains my future
  • for the topic of yesterday's meeting, How Do You Wear Your Sobriety? (Like a loose garment or like a straight jacket)
Our addiction was like a veil over our heads. We saw the world as an ugly place. We saw people as trouble. We thought our drinks and drugs were beautiful. But even they became ugly over time. Life became ugly because we had put distance between our Higher Power and ourselves. Now we are blessed because the veil is lifted, and we are part of the healing process. We help others step into the beauty of recovery. ~Keep It Simple

Dear Scott,

How true your words are in my life !
During my late Father's illness I reached out to my Higher Power and have had a relationship since.

I found solace that nothing else ever gave me. AA had planted the idea of a "loving, gentle, approachable Higher Power" available for me by asking.

AA has changed my life in ways I never expected.

Did you share Scott? How do you wear your sobriety?

Scott W said...

No, I didn't share. I try to wear it like a fashionable caftan. Google it if you aren't familiar with that form of dress, circa 1970.

I can see you wearing your sobriety like a very stylish caftan. I think I wear mine like a muu muu.
