IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

07.21.07

It mattered little whether our resentments were justified or not.
The same goes for sulking or silent scorn. (Stop!) These are emotional booby traps baited with pride and vengefulness.
But in other instances only the closest scrutiny will reveal what our true movites were.
There are cases where our ancient enemy, rationalization, has stepped in and has justified conduct which was really wrong. The temptation here is to imagine that we had good motives and reasons when we really didn't.

If you can't tell, I am meeting with my sponsor this morning to go over the tenth step. Continued to take personal inventory and when wrong promptly admitted it. That helps keep me right-sized. At bed time I am usually so close to falling asleep that I usually do fall asleep before I have finished my prayers. I love it that as a child I was taught to say my prayers at bedtime, and still do. But the day's inventory usually takes place the following morning during my formal prayer and meditation time, sometimes taking the form of a gratitude list. I do spot inventories when I can spot the need.
Today I am grateful...
  • for a loving sponsor to walk with me through the steps
  • for the loving sense of being a direct piece of the puzzle that is the combination of my Higher Power plus the experience of life in a human form that carries my soul around
  • that today, I have the time I need
  • that helping another can take many forms

As I'm doing my Step 4 inventory or the first time, this is an inspiration. Love the first line of your entry -- it doesn't matter does it? Resentment is toxic anyhow.

DEar Scott,

I really appreciate your Gratitude List today.

Right to the heart of it.

Yes, there are many ways to help other's.

You help me in so many unnamed ways, you just don't know.

Love you,

I am the epitome of justification. Except for some others I know.

I think the 10th, 11th, and 12th are the heart and soul of long term sobriety.
