I don't keep snakes in my silverware drawer. ~post on Anonymous Alcoholic
Today I am grateful...
  • for the help of recovery bloggers in keeping me sober
  • for Pam's letters to herself, evidence of the cunning, baffling and powerful effects of addiction
  • that my nephew, Ryan, continues his healing at Lifeline. His classes don't start until the 11th, but he is happy to be where he is and knows it is the place for him.
  • that the healing of an alcoholic extends far past himself
  • for the most incredibly BORING meeting I have ever attended. At one point half the room (probably 25 people) had left, someone came out of the office and asked if the meeting adjourned early. It was the first time for the chairperson to lead a meeting and hopefully someone will discuss meeting etiquette.
  • that today I get to practice being kind
We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. ~page 24, Alcoholics Anonymous

Now that, my friend..is very powerful. I believe that we will NEVER know how many lives our sobriety effects. Your's sure does effect me.
So glad your nephew believes he is where he needs to be...what an awesome blessing for your family.

It's probably wrong for me to say this, but I'm actually glad not to remember all the suffering and humiliation I went through. It would probably just make me want to drink again.

As long as I know that life in recovery now is better than drinking then, that's all I need to remember. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I feel.

As for the snakes in the silverware drawer, everyone knows that snakes go in the linen closet next to the hidden bottle of tequila! [just kidding]

Peace out,
Kari

Actually snakes are my biggest phobia, and I have heard tales of snakes being found in the linen closet. And between the sheets at the bottom of the bed. That freaks my shit out.

Kari, if one day you are able to remember the last days of drinking, it would probably serve you well.
