IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Friendship

We, as sober members of Alcoholics Anonymous, enjoy a unique bond. As members of the same club we are privileged to have entre into each other's psyche, for we have all experienced hitting an emotional, physical and/or spiritual bottom, and have insight as none others. This morning I read the following from an article by a monk about the nature of spiritual friendships:
Friends united through a spiritual bond feel a deep sense of responsibility to each other, a mutual commitment to their moral evolution and spiritual development. Although they are concerned with this life, just like anyone else, they are also focused on the goal toward which we all strive, whether we know it or not, whether we embrace or reject it. That goal is salvation, or in other traditions, liberation through enlightenment. This commitment to and responsibility for our friends is an absolute; it is part of any friendship seen in the light of eternity.
Today I am grateful...
  • for last night's rest under warm comforters, snuggled with Bunny, of course
  • for an early morning IM chat with my JJ
  • for the closeness found in the fellowship and the power it has to heal
  • for my passion for sobriety and recovery
  • for staying up late and watching music videos on You Tube
  • that Hannen is back

Give something to those who are having trouble, to those whose thoughts are confused, something of your sympathy, your prayers, your time, your love, your thought, your self. Then give of your own confidence, as you have had it given to you by the grace of God. Give of yourself and of your loving sympathy. Give your best to those who need it and will accept it. Give according to need, never according to deserts. Remember that the giving of advice can never take the place of giving of your self. ~Twenty-Four Hours a Day

I am so grateful that I have something to give today. There was a time I had nothing to offer that was healthy (except maybe a bad example!) Your posts are always so full of gentle spirituality...thank you.
