Easy Does It

Many of us have been amused at our seeming inability, even after many years of sobriety, to walk away from a half-finished cup of coffee or glass of soda. We sometimes find ourselves gulping the last swallow of a nonalcoholic drink, as if...

Today I am grateful...
  • for the insights of Scout on her Newcomer Daze blog
  • for last night's Birthday Night celebration of how lives can be changed by the program of AA
  • for the seven one year celebrants injecting new blood into July
  • for dinner with Zane, Dave and Matt
  • to hear lately, over and over, about the WE of the program, of which you are all included

Once, an extremely sick and agitated alcoholic called an AA office and said she had to have instant help! She was asked whether she could hold on 20 to 30 minutes until someone could be gotten to her.

"Oh, no!" She said. "My doctor told me I had to have help right away, immediately, and there isn't a moment to lose."

Then she went on, "That was the day before yesterday!"

Remind yourself once in a while that maybe "Easy Does It" is this day's ideal speed. The change can start right now, remember? ~Staying Sober, pp 46

Scott, I miss reading you every day and have vowed to do it now. But a week's worth is a treat all its own!!! I promise, I'd acknowledge it was you if we ever get to sit at the same dinner table.

(Heck, I'd even acknowledge it was Dave, but don't tell him.)
