IF THE ONLY PRAYER YOU SAID IN YOUR LIFE WAS "THANK YOU", THAT WOULD SUFFICE. ~Meister Eckhart

Today I am grateful...

  • those days where I wanted to just be as miserable as possible are gone
  • that C decided to attend a meeting and talk with one other alcoholic
  • that when Liz left yesterday I thought all that bookkeeping stuff made sense, only to go back a few hours later and be baffled
  • for the thirty minutes of euphoric dancing with Lucy yesterday--such fun!

When men and women pour so much alcohol into themselves that they destroy their lives, they commit a most unnatural act. Defying their instinctive desire for self-preservation, they seem bent upon self-destruction. They work against their own deepest instinct. As they are humbled by the terrific beating administered by alcohol, the grace of God can enter them and expel their obsession. Here their powerful instinct to live can cooperate fully with their Creator's desire to give them new life. For nature and God alike abhor suicide. ~12 and 12, p. 64

before long, i'd look back and wonder what i ever thought was so difficult about it.
