It is not the difficulties of life that I have to conquer, so much as my own selfishness. ~Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Today I am grateful...
  • to have gotten DS home from the hospital not much worse for the wear
  • that some of the veils of illusion have been lifted
  • for flexibility when plans change
  • that tonight Beau will tell his story at Saturday Night Live
  • that I will work in the Lambda office today
We take the First Step at the beginning of our day. For one day. This admission frees us, just for today, from the need to live out our addiction all over again. We've surrendered to this disease. We give up. We quit. But in quitting, we win. And that's the paradox of the First Step: We surrender to win, and by surrendering we gain a far greater power than we ever imagined possible. ~NA, Just for Today

I read in our local newpaper's letters to the editor a submission about quitting smoking with a line that struck me. She stated that smokers, on average, quit six times before they stay quit. The thing she said that struck me? "Don't quit quitting."

Happy Saturday!
