I was up at 3:30 a.m. and the news showed the roads are blocked, traffic moving 1/10th of a mile an hour. There are hardly any gas stations with gas. If we left now for Waco, and if the cars did well and didn't run out of gas, we might make it there tomorrow night. So, all that being said, we really have no choice but to stay. I feel much better riding out the storm in a brick building than in a car stranded on a highway.
I went to Randall's at 4:30 a.m. Jim and I went to the grocery, a large Signature Kroger, and it was like a flea market. Cases of canned stuff on the floors, people waiting for pallets of boxed goods to be opened. No water, no batteries. There were plenty of beautiful cut flowers and they were polishing the floors. After we got back to their places, I went for the last 15 minutes of the 6:30 meeting at Lambda.
We are not out of the woods by a long shot. The best we can hope for is that the course of the hurricane takes the continuing north then east turn. Yesterday the course was southwest of us, not the course laid out by the computers lies on top of us, maybe, just maybe, tomorrow will show it hitting east of us.
It's play it by ear time. It will be what it will be.
Today I am grateful to be sitting here, healthy and stocked up with food. I am sober and will be able to go to meetings up until the storm gets close. I have loved ones to stay with and will be taking our stuff and Chester over there tomorrow afternoon late.
Maybe I will post more later. Time will tell.
Later...
The computer models show the storm moving even further east, and that is good news for us. It is, however, not good news for Louisiana.
One of the things that must be learned from this 1-2 slam to the Gulf Coast is that we are not prepared. Not even close. Hardly anyone had non-perishables, demand for gas was higher than the supply, evacuation of a million plus people was disastrous (there are at least four million people in the Houston area).
My angst has lifted greatly. But I know we are not yet out of the woods with Rita.

But I thought you were already on your way!?
You'll be in my prayers, you and yours. Stay safe, and keep us posted.
Damn, I'm calling you today.
what kinds of flowers did Kroger's have?
i like red
nmnmfqlmsh calls you, huh?
lol
All my good thoughts and prayers are with you today, Scott. I think you make a good point about being inside of a brick building, with some degree of protection and certainty rather than being on the road, moving l/10th of a mile with so much unknown. Hugs to Chester.
Hey Scott. Thought you left. I didn't get to go either. Chris is coming to stay with Max and I. Wade is staying. Your not staying at home are you? Take care. L.
