Didnt I also hear him lament on "how awful it must be not to be able to take a shower or have ice for ones drinks"? I mean showers? Ice?

My feeling is that there is plenty of "blame" to go around, starting from the local level to the federal level.

In instances such as this, the STATE is required to ask for FEDERAL assistance. The Governor os Louisiana did not do this until Tuesday night, the 2nd day of the disaster. This is because the Mayor of NOLA thought he had it all under control, using the plan they had in place.

It was not until Friday morning that the Gov. gave troops the authority to "shoot to kill" the looters and other criminals. She has YET to declare martial law.

I agree that National Guard troops seemed to be a long time coming, but realistically it was less than 48 hours after the request that they were on site with significant numbers. I've also heard a story of a police force from Maryland offering help being turned down by the Lousisina State Police on Thursday because of nothing but ego.

I am not trying to excuse Bush and his buddies. They are to blame for poor performance. But they aren't the only ones. This was an event of inprecedented magnitude. The plans in place were not adequate. Those plans were made on the local level and had been there for decades.

Bush and FEMA must take blame for their part in this. The State of Louisiana must take blame for their part in this. The City of New Orleans must take blame for their part in this.

But don't forget the thousands of heroes who have risked their own lives in order to save others. They are the shining stars of this catastrophe.

David, Thanks for your comments. The situation is overwhelming in scope.

You know, Scott, I think I am going to need to do some writing on this entire subject, kind of like a 4th step, letter to Bush. Today I have a post on whether we are ready for another terrorist attack.

I am so disgusted by this government. And I accept it, I just dispise it!!!

I did not realize you are in Houston. Yikes!

I truly am afraid that I hate George W. He is a monster in his own way.
