Boxing Day

It's Boxing Day and the servants have the day off, so I drove Randall and myself back to Houston.

We had a great big breakfast in Edie's kitchen as usual. I collected all our goodies and loaded the car while Edie wrapped up lots of turkey and dressing for us to bring back. We declined the cranberry salad, which is really cherry pie filling and Cool Whip. We stopped at the McDonald's in Hearn, along with everyone else traveling, to get R a big Coke with ice. The McD attendant filled the cup too full and it was leaking all over the place, so I grabbed the napkins and held it out the window to pour off some. I tried to hand the woman the napkins and she said 'The garbage is over there' so I just tossed the soggy paper into her window. I assume she didn't like that as she then threw the napkins on the drive thru asphalt. Whatever.

The trip was other wise uneventful. A nice sunny day with moderate traffic. We listened to the Guru Gita which is our tradition when starting out on the road to bless the trip. Then I played ond of the cds Steve made, a talk Bill W gave in June 1954 about the Third Legacy--Service. It was sometimes hard to make out what he was saying, the reel-to-reel tape it was copied from is God knows how old, but it was nice to hear his voice. After that I sprang for some Madonna. R was a good spirit and endured it.

It's good to be home. Chester has not stirred from his bed, he must be napping because he is making those little whimper sounds he makes when he is dreaming of chasing squirrels. Think I will read a bit and take a nap before heading over to Jim's for dinner.

The McD girl may have been able to put those napkins to another use. How sweet of you to hand them back to her.
